EDU 3040 - July 26, 2010

Today in our class we were to read in our books Chapter Five.  This chapter dealt with Integrating Digital Media and Educational Software Application.  We also took a quiz on Chapter 3 and our Instructional Software Evaluation was due.  We found out what digital media is and why digital media and educational software application important for education.  Digital media is found in various areas including, but not limited to, advertisements, art, education, entertainment, engineering, medicine, mathematics, business and scientific research.

We also learned about educational software for grades K-12.  Also included in the lesson was software appropriate for students with special needs and how they can succeed with the proper tools.  The possibilities for learning and instruction are nearly endless with this type of software.

EDU 3040 - July 19, 2010

During class last week we learned that technology is useful for both students and teachers!

There are many software applications that can be used in teaching.  One software that I tried was Kidspiration.  This is a wonderful software for teaching grades K-5.  This software also supports ELL and ESL learners because of its emphasis on developing and using independent strategies such as pictures of thoughts and concepts, as well as sight vocabulary lists.

All the functions of the software give students more opportunities to explore new concepts, discover meaning and express themselves with pictures, text, numbers and spoken words.

How do YOU like YOUR EDU 3040 Class?

I am enjoying this class! We have learned how to use Ease of Accessibility options that are available to all on the computer. We have also learned how technology impacts both the teacher and the student in the classroom. Computers have opened doorways that have previously been shut to disabled people. There are many things that can be done on the computer such as virtual field trips that can show children places in the world that they might never be able to see in person.
